North by Northwest - US Tour, March 8, 2013

Allen Whear, violoncello

This would be the perfect title for this blog, apart from the fact that we are flying Delta, which has absorbed Northwest, but hey.

Movin' on up...US Tour, March 7, 2013

Allen Whear, violoncello

Our first House of Dreams tour begins at the top of the heap. Over the years, Tafelmusik has earned many New York notches on its belt--The Metropolitan Museum, 92nd St Y, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall—but on this trip we find ourselves staking out new territory far uptown in what turns out to be an ideal place for this kind of program.

Historical Connections - Ontario Tour, February 12, 2013

Christopher Verrette, violin

...times like these are opportunities to get some preparation done for whatever is coming next for the busy musicians of Tafelmusik. Especially with a tour of the memorised House of Dreams show not too far over the horizon, we like to take advantage of being gathered together for "playdates" for grownups (if we qualify).

Time Travelling and Snowstorms - Ontario Tour, February 11, 2013

Christopher Verrette, violin

Setting out on tour often reminds me of the opening chapter of La Lenteur, by Milan Kundera, in which a scene of fast-paced modern traffic leads to a reflection on a very different journey taken in an eighteenth-century tale and culminates in an encounter between two characters from different eras.

A Whirlwind Tour Finale - Western Canada Tour, December 2, 2012

Aisslinn Nosky, violin

Yesterday started in the mid-morning with a pleasant drive from Saskatoon to Regina. Before we boarded the bus a mini fashion show broke out in the hotel lobby as several orchestra members showed off some extremely warm sweaters and coats they had picked up during our hours off in Saskatoon. The weather stayed clear enough that we could enjoy the beautiful prairie sky rolling along outside the comfortable warmth of the coach.

From Salmon to Snow - Western Canada Tour, November 30, 2012

Aisslinn Nosky, violin

The day after the performance in Nanaimo was a day off in the schedule for the orchestra to rest and recuperate before travelling out to Saskatoon, Regina and Calgary. Most of the orchestra spent the day in Victoria and I stayed in Nanaimo to visit with my parents. We had a lovely day socialising before my parents drove me back down to Victoria so that I could travel with the orchestra the next day.

Homecoming - Western Canada Tour, November 27, 2012

Aisslinn Nosky, violin

Yesterday we headed from Victoria up to Duncan to play at the Cowichan Valley Theatre presented by the Cowichan Symphony Society. As the bus drove over the rugged terrain, the orchestra enjoyed beautiful views of the Sidney peninsula and Saanich Inlet.

A Voyage to Vancouver Island - Western Canada Tour, November 24, 2012

Aisslinn Nosky, violin

Tour day 2 started with a very beautiful sunrise in Vancouver. It was very mild and I took a brief walk around Lonsdale Quay in order to soak up the view and the fresh ocean smells before we boarded the bus to head to the ferry. It was a beautiful day for the crossing and all of the orchestra could be spotted on the outside decks trying to capture the view with assorted smartphones and cameras.

A Rock Star Greeting - Western Canada Tour, November 23, 2012

Aisslinn Nosky, violin

I am always excited to be touring with Tafelmusik, but our trips which include B.C. fill me with a heightened sense of excitement because as well as turning new audiences on to our performances, I get to re-connect with family and old friends because I grew up in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island.

Ontario Tour - May 31, 2012

Stephanie Miletic (Tour Manager)

We are enroute to Parry Sound at the moment and I have some time on the bus to reflect on the fabulous day we had yesterday. We arrived in Mindemoya and immediately were ushered in for lunch. The Mindemoya Missionary Church staff prepared a great lunch and we even had rhubarb crumble for dessert with rhubarb that was picked that morning!
