We change directions today and head west for two days of school shows, first in St. Mary’s and then in Windsor. St. Mary’s brings us closer to my home turf than we usually get – my hometown is Seaforth, in Huron County 50 kilometres to the north, and I spent much of my childhood in London, 40 kilometres to the south.

Most musicians aren’t morning people – after all, we have to be at our best in the evening when performing – so I was surprised to meet a relatively chipper group of colleagues at 7:00 am getting ready to board the bus outside Trinity-St. Paul’s, helped perhaps by the large box of Tim’s donuts that seemed a fitting beginning to an Ontario road tour.

The charming canals and warm lights of this city envelop my soul like a blanket. I have never been to a place that made me feel so immediately at home. Even the darkest, rainiest days are beautiful here.
