US Tour 2019: Update from violinist Cristina Zacharias

Halfway into our 2019 US tour the theme seems to be snow. The sunny view from my hotel in Boulder, Colorado this morning is of gorgeous snow-covered hills. The view on our first tour day was a bit less welcome — the snowstorm in Toronto stayed with us for almost all of our drive to State College, Pennsylvania, and added a couple of hours to the already long trip.

Cristina Zacharias' 'My Musik'

The first early music CD I ever bought is a classic — the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin performed by Sigiswald Kuijken. I listened to this recording a lot as a young student, and it played a huge role in shaping how I hear and understand this amazing music that is the backbone of the violin repertoire. It also sparked my interest in learning more about period performance and historical instruments.

A View from the Orchestra – what our musicians are thinking about Baroque Austria: Salzburg and Vienna

Baroque Austria: Salzburg and Vienna is Tafelmusik’s first concert at our newly revitalized home venue, Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre, Jeanne Lamon Hall. We are looking forward to showing off our new space, but also to introducing you to some rarely-heard, and really quite exciting, music. Guest directed by the German/Argentinian violinist Manfredo Kraemer, this concert includes music by Fux, Biber, Schmelzer, Rittler, and Muffat.
