Later this month, Tafelmusik’s dear friend and collaborator Aisslinn Nosky returns to direct Passions Revealed. In advance of her arrival, we caught up with her to ask how she’s been, and what aspects of the concert she’s most excited about.
What have you been up to—musically and otherwise—since your last Tafelmusik appearance at Trailblazers: Mendelssohn & Farrenc?
I’ve been very busy performing since I last appeared with Tafelmusik in Toronto. A couple of highlights were performing at the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts in Central Park, and making my first appearance with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. I was also very excited to release my latest recording with the Handel and Haydn Society of Mozart Violin Concertos, Volume II this past fall.
What excites you most about this program, Passions Revealed?
Reuniting with my dear colleagues at Tafelmusik for this program is something I have been looking forward to for many months. I always feel a special connection to the audiences when I perform in Toronto and I can’t wait to perform again in the beautiful acoustics of Jeanne Lamon Hall!
Is there a particular piece or composer you’re most looking forward to performing? And if so, why?
That’s a difficult choice! I’m really excited to collaborate with the spectacular Johanna Novom in Bach’s Concerto for two violins, but I also can’t wait to hear the incomparable Dominic Teresi play Vivaldi’s “La Notte” concerto for bassoon. They will both be a delight!
If this concert had a feeling or a mood, how would you describe it?
Virtuosic, emotionally complex, and passionate.
What do you hope audience members leave the concert feeling, thinking, and doing?
I hope audience members will leave the concert feeling uplifted by the music we have shared, and reflecting on their favourite moments of the performance as they plan to attend again soon!
