Lecture with Tafelmusik's Ivars Taurins

FREE Tafelmusik Lecture

Join Tafelmusik Choir Director Ivars Taurins to learn more about Handel’s Messiah  a perennial and beloved favourite of music-lovers since it’s première in Dublin in 1742. The oratorio was composed by George Frideric Handel in a mere 24 days, and has become one of the best-known and most-frequently performed choral works in Western music.

Mr. Taurins will talk about the music as well as the remarkable history of this wonderful piece – from its initially modest public reception, to the large-scale versions with huge orchestral and choral forces in Victorian times, up to today.
Tafelmusik’s own performances of Handel’s Messiah, including the unique and festive Sing-Along Messiah directed by “Herr Handel,” have been traditional holiday concerts in Toronto since the 1980s.  This lecture is a great preparation for your own concert experience in December!
Tafelmusik Messiah performances take place at Koerner Hall Dec 17 to 20 at 7:30pm; Sing-Along Messiah takes place at Massey Hall on Dec 21 at 2pm.
All are welcome at this lecture - no musical knowledge required.
Lecture presented in partnership with the Toronto Public Library
