One Night Only
Toronto, October 20, 2017 … Haus Musikkicks off its second season of immersive, mixed-genre collaborations with Crossing/Traversée on Thursday, November 16 at The Great Hall (1087 Queen St. W.). Doors open at 8 pm with live music starting at 8:30 pm. Advance tickets are $20 and are available online at hausmusikto.com.
Inspired by ideas around love and non-linear time, Crossing/Traversée layers dance and digital projections for the eye; music, audio collage, and spoken word for the ear; and even scent for the nose, to create a fully immersive, multi-sensory experience.
The creative contributions of “Toronto’s house music beacon of cultural authenticity” (Thump), electronic artist Andycapp (Andrew Hicks), dancer Jack Rennie (Opera Atelier), stage director Jennifer Nichols (Against the Grain, REIGN on CW TV), and filmmaker Patrick Hagarty (The Golden Ticket)rub shoulders with live music from Baroque France by Couperin, Marais, and Rameau performed by four musicians from Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra —Geneviève Gilardeau andPatricia Ahern, violins; Felix Deak, viola da gamba;and Charlotte Nediger, harpsichord.
Immersive, engaging, and lively, Haus Musik is an experimental performance concept from Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, “one of the world’s top baroque orchestras” (Gramophone). Haus Musik reaches new audiences by challenging the rules of the traditional classical music experience, taking it out of the concert hall and dropping it into an atmospheric, theatrical setting.
Past Haus Musik events have featured interventions by DJs, an alien dancer, and hundreds of white balloons. “Above all, it felt like a good party,” wrote The Wholenote, while the Toronto Star declared, “Haus Musik puts the music at your feet.” Upcoming Haus Musik events are slated for February 1, and April 26, 2018.
