One Night Only!
Toronto, April 5, 2017 … Promising an evocative show that explores the idea of finding natural beauty in an urban setting, Haus Musik returns on Thursday, April 27 with electronic sound designer SlowPitchSound, freestyle dance artist Libydo, soprano Ellen McAteer, stage director/ designer Alaina Viau, filmmaker Darren Bryant, and musicians of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.
“Between … the staging of the show and the music performed, baroque music felt shiny and new last night, reflected in a fresh and fearless light,” wrote The Wholenote about the most recent Haus Musik. The April 27 edition includes a set of live acoustic music by baroque composers Telemann, Zelenka, Bach, and others — music that will provide SlowPitchSound (Cheldon Paterson) with the starting point for his “otherworldly” (GrayOwl Point) electronic soundscape. "Paterson has long shown mastery of the decks and electronics, but this performance also demonstrated mastery of building a compelling set arc and a fully immersive experience." (Exclaim.ca)
Immersive, engaging, and lively, Haus Musik is an experimental performance concept from Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, “one of the world’s top baroque orchestras” (Gramophone). Haus Musik challenges the rules of the traditional classical music experience by taking it out of the concert hall and dropping it into an atmospheric, theatrical setting. Tafelmusik musicians are front and centre as they perform baroque music on period instruments in a standing-only venue with a laid-back vibe and a cash bar.
Past Haus Musik events have featured interventions by DJs, an alien dancer, and hundreds of white balloons. “Above all, it felt like a good party,” wrote The Wholenote, while the Toronto Star declared, “Haus Musik puts the music at your feet.”
