Toronto, December 16, 2015 … Paris-based Romanian violinist Mira Glodeanu makes her Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra debut as guest director and soloist for Vivaldi’s L’estro armonico (harmonic fancy), January 20 to 24, 2016 at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre, Jeanne Lamon Hall. Conceived as a musical trip through an imaginary Italy, the programme is built around Vivaldi’s concertos and features music by Italian and French baroque composers who were inspired and influenced by the composer. Ms. Glodeanu and select Tafelmusik musicians will participate in a Post-performance Talkback (Q&A) after the first concert.

Vivaldi’s L’estro armonico took 18th-century Europe by storm, earning the composer instant fame and forever changing how concertos were written. These works of astonishing creativity are ideally suited to the exceptional soloists of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, and three concertos have been selected for this programme. Classics Today hailed Tafelmusik’s “scintillating, dynamic, articulate and vibrant” 2007 recording of L’estro armonico as being “nothing short of phenomenal.”

With this programme, Ms. Glodeanu introduces audiences to several works that have never before been performed by Tafelmusik:  Giovanni Guido's Scherzi armonici; Francesco Venturini’s Ouverture a 7 in G Minor; the opening of Tartini’s Sonata for violin in G Minor "Devil's Trill"; the Pastorale from Chédeville’s Il pastor fido; and two works by Pietro Locatelli: his Sonata for 2 violins and continuo in A Major, and Introduttioni teatrali in D Major, an energetic, concerto-style overture.

Mira Glodeanu has performed as soloist and concertmaster around the world with baroque ensembles such as Collegium Vocale (Belgium), les Agrémens (Belgium), and Al Ayre Espagnol (Spain), among others. With Vincent Dumestre, in 2008 she formed the orchestra Le Poème Harmonique, where she holds the position of concertmaster. Ms. Glodeanu is also the current Artistic Director of Ensemble Philidor.

A passionate and highly experienced chamber musician, Ms. Glodeanu has collaborated with such artists as Christina Pluhar (l’Arpeggiata), Marcel Ponseele (Il Gardellino), and Jean Tubéry (La Fenice). In 1998 she and harpsichordist Frédérick Haas founded the ensemble Ausonia, and together they made the world premiere recording of violin sonatas by F. Francoeur. Glodeanu has also recorded the complete Sonatas for violin and harpsichord by J. S. Bach for Ambronay, as well as German and Austrian baroque repertoire for solo violin.

Mira Glodeanu is professor of baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and is a guest professor at the University of Salamanca, Spain.
