From May 8-14, 2014 Tafelmusik ended the 2013-2014 season with a joyful musical celebration of Jeanne Lamon who has stepped down as Music Director to take on a new role within the organization.
Jeanne will now be devoting herself to the training of the future generation of period performers- a mission that is very dear to her heart.

“The ensemble members … performed the entire concert from memory, their spirited, polished interpretations imbued with spontaneity and imaginative flair.”
— New York Times, 2013
“When it’s at its best, Tafelmusik Orchestra can compete with any similar ensemble in the world. Its brisk tempi, precise, yet passionate attacks and joyous ensemble work take us back to an older musical world with sharp effectiveness …”

On Sunday, September 29, Tafelmusik Early Bird Subscribers attended two special “sneak peek” concerts at the newly revitalized Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre. Both audience and musicians were thrilled to experience the new space, which we think is beautiful for both the ears and the eyes. The day was made even more special because of a presentation at the 3:30pm concert.

The Baroque Alive and Beautiful
by Harry Rolnick
An immaculate conception is worthless unless its executors have an equally immaculate method of making it work. House of Dreams, from a Toronto-based Early Music ensemble, was not only original in concept, but its technical staff, narrator, writer and of course its 16-member ensemble had all the requisite, and yes, all the immaculate skills.

New and imaginative ways of programming Baroque repertoire that was never intended for the modern concert or CD formats are always welcome and Tafelmusik have found a corker here.

Heavenly – that’s a concise but accurate description of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra’s newest release, The Galileo Project: Music of the Spheres - a fusion of the arts, science and culture in the 17th and 18th centuries captured in an imaginative DVD and CD soundtrack commemorating Galileo’s first public demonstration of the telescope. It’s not only heavenly in its subject matter, but it’s pure heaven both visually and in an aural sense.
