This is the fourth year that the Al & Malka Green Artists’ Health Centre, Toronto Western Hospital, UHN and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir have worked together on this extraordinary fundraising event to support Tafelmusik’s artistic activities, and the remarkable Al & Malka Green Artist Health Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital. Last year’s event raised over $330,000.
The Al and Malka Green Artists’ Health Centre at Toronto Western Hospital provides essential health care support to creative and performing artists, in addition to advancing research and education initiatives. Opened in 2002, it is the first such centre – focused solely on artists’ health – in the world. Repetitive strain injury, musculoskeletal chronic injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome are just a handful of health conditions that can prevent professional musicians or dancers from performing. The Artists’ Health Centre has assisted thousands of artists in the GTA and beyond.
Juno Award winning Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra is one of the world’s leading period performance ensembles. Tafelmusik performs over 50 concerts a year at home in Toronto, tours extensively around the world, has released more than 80 CDs, and has received nine JUNO Awards. Tafelmusik has gained the admiration of the arts and business communities for the quality and creativity of its education and artist training programmes, which are helping to developing the next generation of performers and audience members.
