November 1, 2012 North York Central Library Auditorium Map

North York Public Library | Thu Nov 1 at 7pm

Join Tafelmusik Choir Director Ivars Taurins to learn more about Handel's Messiah, a perennial and beloved favorite of music-lovers since the 18th century. Ivars will talk about the music as well as the remarkable history of this wonderful piece from its initially modest reception, to the large-scale versions in Victorian times, up to today. Tafelmusik's own performances of Handel's Messiah, including the unique and festive Sing-Along Messiah directed by "Herr Handel", have been traditional holiday concerts in Toronto since the 1980s. This lecture is great preparation for your own concert experience in December!

Tafelmusik Messiah performances take place at Koerner Hall Dec 19 to 22 at 7:30 pm; Sing-Along Messiah takes place at Massey Hall on Dec 23 at 2:30 pm.
