Here at Tafelmusik, performances of Handel Messiah are an annual tradition. Also a favourite of ours, Bach Christmas Oratorio was last performed by the orchestra in December 2015, and was scheduled to be performed this season—until the pandemic affected our ability to gather for live performances.
We have a long history performing and recording the music of these iconic Baroque composers. We invite you to soundtrack your day, week, or weekend with their incredible music, and enjoy our Spotify playlists.
Tafelmusik takes the music of Bach online with newly recorded excerpts of the Goldberg Variations in an original orchestral arrangement by Music Director Elisa Citterio. Originally scheduled for live performance earlier this month, the world premiere of Citterio’s arrangement of this masterpiece was to be a major highlight of Tafelmusik’s 2019/20 season, before the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of several concerts.
In our 2019/20 season, we are exploring how "old" can meet "new." This theme runs across our season in many ways, including six short new works by living composers written to complement the programs.
We are delighted to welcome Grégoire Jeay, who was commissioned to compose a new work for solo harpsichord for our Goldberg Variations program in April.
Welcome to the second part of our Members' Music Academy Lecture! Presented by Ann Monoyios, this lecture—the final of a two-part series—explores Bach's world, the path that led him to Leipzig, and his St John Passion.
Members' Music Academies offer donors of $300 and above the opportunity to dig deeper into themes explored in Tafelmusik programming. These informal, and insightful discussions are led by Tafelmusik musicians and invited guest speakers.
