Meet painter Darby Milbrath, from our new video series "Musik in Motion"

Today, we launched Musik in Motion: a free series of collaborative videos featuring local artists of diverse art forms produced by Puncture Design. In keeping with Tafelmusik’s commitment to exploring “baroque and beyond,” Puncture and Tafelmusik invited five creative partners to interpret music that is an essential part of Tafelmusik’s signature repertoire. The series is launching with a video featuring local artist Darby Milbrath.

An Il Seicento Cocktail and Mocktail Recipe, from Bartender Alana Nogueda

One of many advantages to virtual concerts is the privilege of enjoying your favourite libation in the comfort of your own home. And our next concert, Il Seicento, highlights the ambitious, experimental energy of the music scene in 17th-century Italy.

With those two points in mind, Tafelmusik collaborated with Alana Nogueda—part owner and Beverage Director of The Shameful Tiki Room Toronto—to design a cocktail created especially for Il Seicento. Just like our concert, this drink is ambitious and energetic, and is the perfect pairing to our musical program.

Celebrating Black History Month: Concerts and Resources

February is Black History Month: a time to learn, reflect, and participate in festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black people and their communities.

In our spirit of celebrating beauty through music, Tafelmusik has compiled a list of virtual concerts and musical events celebrating Black artistry and legacy. This list reflects events coordinated by our local Toronto communities, and our larger classical communities globally, but is in no way exhaustive: if you are organizing or aware of an event, please tell us at, and we will add your contribution.

In The New Normal—our new interview series—we speak to the musicians and staff of Tafelmusik, to ask how working and performing in new ways has changed our routines, and our operations as a performing arts organization.

In this interview, we sat down with Giulia Mandel, our Manager of Customer Experience, to hear her perspective on how this “new normal” has affected her work and life.

Tafelmusik: The phrase “the new normal” has become a staple of our everyday vernacular. What does “the new normal” mean for you, as it relates to your life, and your work with Tafelmusik?
