The Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute is led by some of the world's finest musicians in the field of baroque performance. The Institute is held at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. This comprehensive training program includes orchestra and choir rehearsals, masterclasses, opera scene study for singers, chamber ensembles, private lessons, lectures and workshops, classes in baroque dance, and concerts by both participants and faculty. We invite advanced students, pre-professional and professional musicians to apply.
It is with great excitement that I announce the ninth annual Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute (TBSI), a unique training programme in instrumental and vocal baroque performance practice. We are dedicated to developing the period performers of the future, and TBSI is certainly producing great results: several past participants of the Institute have won positions in the Tafelmusik Orchestra and Chamber Choir and others have been hired on an occasional basis.
Since its inception in 2002, TBSI has continued to attract high-calibre musicians from far and wide. Last year we received 135 applications and welcomed 85 participants from 6 Canadian provinces and territories, 16 U.S. states, and 8 international countries: 19 singers, 5 flutists, 4 oboists, 4 bassoonists, 17 violinists, 4 violists, 6 cellists, 4 bassists, 8 harpsichordists, 10 conductors, and 4 continuo assistants.
Consider joining an amazing group of musicians to delve into the world of baroque music: explore a baroque instrument; study in masterclasses; enjoy private lessons; play or sing with other participants and Tafelmusik musicians in ensembles, orchestra and choir; learn to dance a minuet or act with baroque gestures. We promise you a great deal of fun, as well as an intensive learning experience.
