The Faculty of Music will continue to offer the Advanced Certificate in Performance (Baroque Option) with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. This Advanced Certificate in Performance (Baroque Option) is an intensive one-year full-time accredited program that allows graduate-level students the opportunity for baroque performance training on period instruments.
The program includes private lessons with Tafelmusik musicians, a recital, appropriate ensemble, performance, literature and pedagogy courses selected in consultation with the Program Advisor, and an opportunity to perform with Tafelmusik in concert at the Faculty of Music. Electives may include courses in performance styles and literature, pedagogy, languages, world music, performance skills and the business of music.
To be eligible to apply to the Advanced Certificate in Performance (Baroque Option), you must have completed a Bachelor of Music Degree, Diploma or the equivalent. This one-year program is not available to students graduating from High School, due to its focus on Graduate levels of performance.
All applicants to the Advanced Certificate in Performance (Baroque Option) must submit a completed Advanced Certificate in Performance (Baroque Option) Application Form and the necessary supporting documents to the Faculty of Music Admissions & Recruitment Officer by February 8, 2008. All applicants must participate in an audition/interview. All repertoire must be performed at a level equivalent to a graduate program Master’s Degree audition and must be played on period instruments.
Those within 400 km/250 miles of Toronto will audition in person. Others may send in a recording. The complete audition requirements must be followed and be of good tonal quality. Recorded auditions of inadequate quality will not be considered.
Strings/Winds: Two baroque solo sonatas in contrasting styles on period instruments.
Harpsichord: Two contrasting solo works. Harpsichordists will also be given a continuo passage to sight read.
