Training Programmes for Emerging Artists

It is with great pride that Tafelmusik and the RBC Foundation launch the second season of Baroque Mentors, Tafelmusik’s training programmes for emerging artists. It has long been an integral part of Tafelmusik’s vision to be a centre of musical excellence for generations to come. To achieve this goal, we believe that we must invest today in the artists of tomorrow to ensure that gifted young musicians are supported through world-class training opportunities with professional musicians. Baroque Mentors is a year-long series of masterclasses and residencies in Toronto and in universities across Canada, allowing emerging artists to learn directly from Tafelmusik musicians and our distinguished guest artists.

Among the Baroque Mentors activities offered in 2011-12 are masterclasses and residencies at the University of Toronto, University of Western Ontario, York University and University of Saskatchewan. Tafelmusik’s 2011-12 series of Guest Artist Masterclasses, linked with our Toronto series concerts, includes classes with soprano Dorothee Mields (Germany), violinist Stefano Montanari (Italy), oboist Alfredo Bernardini (Italy), recorder player Marion Verbruggen (Holland) and violinist Rachel Podger (Great Britain).

Tafelmusik is grateful to the RBC Foundation for its generous support of this important initiative. Many of the students we reach through Baroque Mentors are being introduced to period performance for the first time: for them it is an invaluable addition to their training as performers. To students who are experienced period players or singers, we are able to offer training at the highest level, by the leading teachers in the field.
