Montreal Tour - September 10, 2011 - Tafelmusik Chamber Choir

Craig Morash (baritone)

Re-energized by a free day of strolling Montreal's streets, city bus tours, walking and running up, down and around Mount Royal, and generally putting maximum effort into sustaining Montreal's retail economy, we headed into our final 2 days of performances re-fuelled on Montreal smoked meat sandwiches and dinners of Greek food and red wine.

Last night`s opening concert was a huge success! Our day started with a late-morning rehearsal with Maestro Nagano and the OSM to iron out the last few rough patches and then everyone was revved to go for the show.

On tour one tends to lose track of time. There’s the usual “If it’s Tuesday it must be Belgium” (or in our case, Port Perry), but the clock also seems to play tricks, sometimes skipping forward and sometimes standing still.

If Saturday was the ideal tour day, this was one of the more tedious. We took Jeanne’s “Go for Baroque” children’s show to the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau. The shows themselves were fine – it’s always great to play for young children and their parents, though the ambient noise makes it challenging.

Yesterday was the ideal tour day – we’d arrived in Kingston on Friday night, so there was no suitcase to lug, and no bus or plane to board.

Most musicians aren’t morning people – after all, we have to be at our best in the evening when performing – so I was surprised to meet a relatively chipper group of colleagues at 7:00 am getting ready to board the bus outside Trinity-St. Paul’s, helped perhaps by the large box of Tim’s donuts that seemed a fitting beginning to an Ontario road tour.

Julia Wedman's Grand Tour: Journal Entry 3 - February 1, 2011

Julia Wedman (violin)

The charming canals and warm lights of this city envelop my soul like a blanket. I have never been to a place that made me feel so immediately at home. Even the darkest, rainiest days are beautiful here.
