Our first House of Dreams tour begins at the top of the heap. Over the years, Tafelmusik has earned many New York notches on its belt--The Metropolitan Museum, 92nd St Y, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall—but on this trip we find ourselves staking out new territory far uptown in what turns out to be an ideal place for this kind of program.

Tafelmusik at the American Academy of Arts and Letters

Tafelmusik, from Toronto, presented here by the Miller Theater, offered a whimsical and beautifully structured program called “House of Dreams,” which linked digital images of Baroque masterpieces to the music that was performed in the 18th-century salons where these paintings decorated the walls.

The Baroque Alive and Beautiful

An immaculate conception is worthless unless its executors have an equally immaculate method of making it work. House of Dreams, from a Toronto-based Early Music ensemble, was not only original in concept, but its technical staff, narrator, writer and of course its 16-member ensemble had all the requisite, and yes, all the immaculate skills.
