The Galileo Project: Explore the fusion of the arts, science and culture in the 17th and 18th centuries in this imaginative DVD and CD commemorating Galileo's first public demonstration of the telescope. The Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra performs music by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Bach and Handel to a backdrop of high-definition images from the Hubble telescope, NASA and Canadian astronomers. Actor Shaun Smyth narrates a compelling script and the musicians, playing by memory, weave in and around a magical stage set. The Galileo Project was created, programmed and scripted by Alison Mackay, and filmed by the international award-winning 90th Parallel Productions. BONUS FEATURES: The DVD includes two bonus tracks of original animated films of Tafelmusik by director David New, and the package also includes a music-only CD soundtrack of the gorgeous baroque music featured in the film. |
“The musical performance, through it all, was of the highest order … bursts of virtuosity were too widespread and numerous to list.”
The New York Times (on the live concert of The Galileo Project) |

BACH: Brandenburg Concertos Tafelmusik Media Beloved is the operative word in this re-release of the masterpieces in the hands of JEANNE LAMON and the TAFELMUSIK BAROQUE ORCHESTRA. Critic Teb Libbey wrote, “Lucid and refreshingly pure, like water drawn from a cool, clear stream, these accounts are notable for the consistently clean textures and solid bass lines, for the way melodic lines and voice leading are clearly delineated, and for the manner in which the solo instruments emerge from the tutti with just the right amount of presence. With excellent sound, these are well-nigh ideal realizations.” 1995 JUNO Award Winner – “Best Classical Album: Large Ensemble.” |
“To my ears, these are Brandenburgs straight from the heart and as such they are performances which invite repeated listening.” Gramophone |

VIVALDI: The Four Seasons Tafelmusik Media There are literally hundreds of recordings of this work, but this particular re-release with the TAFELMUSIK BAROQUE ORCHESTRA and JEANNE LAMON stands out as one of the best. Although first released in 1992, one need only check some of the current on-line comments (amazon.com) to find there are still passionate consumers declaring the performance as “enlightened,” “disciplined,” “elegant and dignified without being stuffy and stilted.” Or how about, “This is one of those done-to-death works that serious collectors must own.” Winner of England's The Penguin Guide’s highest accolade in 1994 — the Rosette. |
“riveting performance …highly imaginative and stylistically faithful to Vivaldi.” The Sunday Times |
