Toronto, October 29, 2012 … Tafelmusik welcomes the talented violinist Gottfried von der Goltz for its Mozart’s World concerts at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre November 7 to 11, 2012. These performances will be guest directed from the violin by von der Goltz and feature music by Mozart and his classical contemporaries, including Mozart’s Violin Concerto in A Major, K.219 “Turkish”, Haydn’s Symphony no. 52, and music by Franz Beck and Josef Kraus — the “Swedish Mozart.” The programme is built around the contrast between the gracious music of classicism, and the dramatic Sturm und Drang style of pre-classical composers.
Gottfried von der Goltz has made a respected international name for himself as a baroque violinist and Artistic Director of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (FBO). He made the specialist world sit up and take notice with successful CD recordings of the music of the Dresden Baroque and Bach’s sons, noted for their “brilliant violin playing” (Gramophone Magazine). His far-reaching discography, ranging from the 17th century to the modern, demonstrates his tremendous versatility as a musician.
Von der Goltz’s latest CD with the FBO features two concertos by Mendelssohn (together with pianist Kristian Bezuidenhout). Released in August 2011, it was greeted with rave reviews by international music critics. In addition to his work with FBO and chamber music engagements, von der Goltz is Artistic Director of the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra.
On Friday November 9, Tafelmusik’s young audience membership programme Tafelscene will be hosting a party at intermission, complete with snacks and free beverages.
