School Initiatives

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra is committed to providing excellence in educational programmes to both music and non-music students and curriculum-relevant resources to help teachers explore baroque music in a hands-on and interactive way. From free concerts to in-depth workshops these programmes are designed by our musicians to support students and teachers interested in learning enrichment and curriculum support by bringing music into the classroom.

Baroque Music Workshops

This year, we invite secondary school string students to join members of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra for Baroque Education Day on April 29, 2010 at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre. Students will prepare specific repertoire (chosen in advance) with their teachers, and Tafelmusik musicians will visit school orchestra classes and rehearsals to help teachers and students prepare for the day. On April 29th, students will attend a morning concert by members of the Orchestra, sectional rehearsals and workshops, followed by a massed orchestra performance by the students, led by members of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.

Free Student Education Concerts

Forces of Nature

Young learners will be taken on a musical journey through the course of a single day, exploring the stories that our planet Earth has to share. This interactive performance will feature music inspired by nature and the world around us and composed by some of the world’s most recognized and beloved composers including Haydn, Telemann and Vivaldi.

Grade 6 - Describe, through listening, the main characteristics of pieces of music from the baroque and classical periods. (Music)
- Assess human impacts on biodiversity, and identify ways of preserving biodiversity (Science & Technology)

Grade 7 & 8 - Identify music from various cultures and historical periods (Music)
