The Tafelmusik Chamber Choir performs Bach’s motet Jesu, meine Freude and the premiere of a new commission by Canadian composer Paul Frehner for choir and string orchestra inspired by the Seven Last Words of Christ. The concert is part of Soundstreams Canada’s 25th Anniversary Season. The concert is directed by Ivars Taurins and also includes Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina’s moving masterpiece Seven Words, featuring soloists David Hetherington
(cello) and Joseph Petric (bayan/accordian). The Tafelmusik Chamber Choir has been honoured to present numerous premieres under the auspices of Soundstreams Canada, and congratulates Artistic Director Lawrence Cherney and Soundstreams on their extraordinary contribution to the Canadian musical community, and to a quarter-century of unique and dynamic programming.
