Tafelmusik presents Making Herself Heard at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Celebrating the creativity and artistry of women in the 17th and 18th centuries, this concert features musicians whose renown as composers and performers was all but ignored in the annals of history. In bringing their work out of the shadows, we discover in a fresh, “new” soundscape in the works of Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Isabella Leonarda, Marianne Martinez, and the enigmatic Mrs. Philarmonica.

Shooting Stars

June 30, 2023
McMichael Canadian Art Collection
10365 Islington Ave, Kleinburg

Shooting Stars takes its cue from the words of Ian A.C. Dejardin, Executive Director of the McMichael, who describes Tom Thomson, Canada’s pre-eminent modern painter thus:
“… because the career is so brief—really less than four years—it is less of an arc and more of an explosion.” The idea of the shooting star, brightly burning but all-too-soon extinguished, inspires this concert complementing the McMichael’s summer exhibition Tom Thomson: North Star. Julia Wedman, violin; Patrick G. Jordan, viola; and Michael Unterman, cello, perform music by Mozart, Hyacinthe Jadin, Schubert, Boccherini, Giardini, Noferi, and Joseph Bologne, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges.
