Composers of every era have explored the relationship between humans and our natural environment, and composers of the baroque and early classical period are no exception. With spectacular music, backlit with stunning photographic visuals, this programme takes us on a musical journey with our Earth through the course of a single day.

Tafelmusik’s Free Events Our goal is to bring you an inspiring and celebratory concert experience – a reminder of why we love the earth. To that end, Tafelmusik offers you a full range of events and activities each day – FREE to all ticket-holders. Please join us!

• Pre-Concert Lecture
  There will be a free pre-concert lecture by Vanessa Farquharson (arts
  reporter, environmentalist, and author of Sleeping Naked is Green)
  open to all ticket-holders and beginning one hour before each concert in the Sanctuary.
• Photography Exhibition
  Tafelmusik presents a gallery of photography by local artists, some of whose photography will be featured in the Forces of Nature concert. Roam around, enjoy, and order a print for yourself! Open one hour before each concert and during intermission in the Chapel.
• Tafelmusik’s Green Room
  Visit our room of interactive displays and information booths on an
  environmental theme. Participants include Earth Day Canada and our
  sponsor TD Friends of the Environment Foundation each day as well as the following exhibitors:
  April 7 – Iner Souster, Performer, Instrument Maker/Designer. Iner Souster's projects are made from recycled and salvaged materials, and the instruments are used to compose music, for sound and scenic design, and as sculptures.
  April 9 & 10 – Cathy Nesbitt, Cathy's Crawly Composters. Worm advocate Cathy Nesbitt will demonstrate vermicomposting, or worm composting – an excellent way to convert household garbage into nutirent-rich fertilizer.
  April 11 – Line Dufour, Weaver. Line Dufour, an award-winning Canadian weaver will have her portable tapestry weaving loom set up to create a tapestry "prayer totem." Audience members can weave a prayer or wish for the planet with materials provided. Participants may also sign a book, writing messages they have for the planet, and will be credited for their contribution to the piece in an upcoming exhibition of her work.
  Open one hour before each concert and during intermission in the Studio.
• GreenScenezToronto Youth Video Challenge 2009
  View the winning short films made by Toronto students in grades 7 to 12 who are passionate about the environment, and which show what it means to youth to live green. Live Green Toronto is our city's program to help residents and businesses live greener and healthier lives. Visit the lower lobby during intermission to watch the films. About the Challenge >
• Bring your own mug – and get a free organic coffee at intermission in the gymnasium, provided by Green Beanery.
  

Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre for Faith, Justice and the Arts Eco-Festival On Sunday April 11 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, Trinity-St. Paul’s Church, our home venue, will be hosting a range of Earth Day themed events, including a church service, workshops, a local food lunch, and a “blessing of the bikes”.

10:30am, Sanctuary: Trinity-St. Paul’s Worship Service

with a whole earth justice theme and a blessing of the bikes ceremony.

12pm – 2pm, Gym: Lunch fundraiser for VIVA Youth Choir

featuring local foods for only $5.00. Also features retailers and producers
of sustainable local foods.

12:30pm, Studio: Workshop – Sustainable Local Foods
with Melissa Benner

Come and learn about the the importance of supporting sustainable local foods and the resources available in the GTA. Melissa is an educator, community organizer, and a food & farming activist. After completing her M.A. in Communications, travelling & working throughout the world and on the family farm, she is now living in and loving Toronto. Over the past two years, she has worked with the Canadian Co-operatives Association, FarmStart, Local Food Plus, Greenest City, and EcoSource. Melissa is currently teaching in and coordinating
St. Lawrence College’s Sustainable Local Food certificate, and working as the Community Engagement Coordinator for the West End Food Co-op.

1:30pm, Studio: Workshop – How to Green Your Home and Have Fun Doing It with Stephen Collette

Hear Stephen talk about your house in a manner that you never considered:
how it interacts with the environment, and with you! Stephen, through his
amusing anecdotes and passion, will have you laughing at yourself and learning
at the same time. Stephen will walk you through your house, show you
where you can easily green it, saving money and the environment at the same
time, all without wearing a cape! Come, listen and learn with Stephen as he
shares his knowledge on the greening of homes, a topic he teaches,writes and
speaks on throughout North America. Go home with a better sense of how
your house works, and what you can do to green it up.
Free, open to the public

1pm – 2pm: Blessing of cyclists and bikes

Bike maintenance and valet service provided.
