Tafelmusik Winter Institute

The String Orchestra in Baroque Italy

Janury 5-11, 2017

A message from Jeanne Lamon

We are delighted to announce our fifth annual Tafelmusik Winter Institute, to be held in Toronto January 5–11, 2017. We will once again welcome a select group of period players to join us for an intensive week of specialized orchestral study.
This year we will focus on the string orchestra in baroque Italy, exploring music written in Rome, Bologna, Naples, and Venice 1650-1750, by composers such as Caldara, Corelli, Cazzati, Locatelli, Torelli, Scarlatti, Durante, Leo, and Vivaldi. The Institute is open to experienced players of baroque string instruments, as well as harpsichordists and lutenists
The week will include orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, seminars, masterclasses, informal reading sessions, and a final public concert. Leadership of sections will be shared amongst the players. We will include a sampling of the rich Italian solo concerto repertoire, featuring a TWI participant (or participants). See "Application Process" for details.
Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful sponsors, we are delighted to be able to offer this programme at a greatly reduced fee of $275.
Details of the Tafelmusik Winter Institute are included on the following pages. The application deadline was October 12, 2016. If you are an experienced period player, please consider applying next season.
